I really do wonder what would have happened if Snake and Heiji had not been the first people to meet each other. Snake would have ended up a FAR different person as a result.
Snake is a guy that plays things close to his chest for everyone else EXCEPT Heiji for the most part. Was it because that Heiji found out about all of his handicaps while Snake was still trying to figure out what the hell was going on? Was it because Heiji is so intelligent and likes to talk and Snake is a good listener? Or that without asking, Heiji automatically started describing everything and knew the kind of degree of help Snake needed?
Whatever the reason, Heiji was Snake's first ally and one he bounced a lot of ideas off. Then a friend. And now a boyfriend.
Snake values Heiji's opinion highly even if he doesn't agree with it on a given issue. Heiji is fun to tease because he gets so riled. At the same time, Heiji has called him out on his occasional lapses into assholery and giving Snake a kick in the conscience, even if that wasn't his intention. Heiji is that friend and confidant that isn't the complete opposite but different enough that they attack problems at different angles and he can learn from Heiji.
Snake's been with men and women before and although he doesn't remember a lot of either, he suspects that none of them have really done as much to change him as Heiji has. So he's not leaving without you, Heiji.
